Quality design and customer satisfaction are admirable guiding principles for any business, but especially in home building where the product usually represents the biggest financial decision in a person's life. Those principles are foremost in the mind of Ralph Zuckerman, president of Avalon Building Corp. of Tampa Bay.

"I have always guided the company with the philosophy of top-quality designs at an exceptional value," Zuckerman says. "I study the design of much more expensive homes and then incorporate the details and features of those homes into Avalon's models at a fraction of the cost."

Avalon has three award-winning models in the Tampa Bay area that Zuckerman says prospective buyers should check out. He's confident that once people see the models they will see Avalon's commitment to quality design and value, with homes priced from $89 a square foot.

The Forest Oaks community in Wesley Chapel features the Avalon IV model. The 3,170-square-foot home has four bedrooms, three bathrooms, a den, bonus room and three-car garage. It's priced from $281,900.

"In addition to an oversized family room and kitchen, the standard design features include a double-sided fireplace and double 8-foot French doors serving the family and bonus rooms," Zuckerman says. "Both the family and bonus rooms open via 9-foot triple sliding doors to a lagoon-style pool accented by a natural stone waterfall."

The Antigua model sits in the Seven Oaks community in Wesley Chapel. It's filled with architectural details and boasts four bedrooms, three bathrooms, a den and bonus room in 3,654 square feet of living space. It also has a three-car garage.

"People comment all the time on how stunning the model is," Zuckerman says. "The Antigua features a very unique free-form master bathroom, with the tub deck in the shape of a whale, with the tail becoming the shower seat. ... [It also has] two beautiful, large picture windows that overlook a unique private garden solarium."

Priced from $331,900, the Antigua also offers a gourmet kitchen, two separate lanais and an oversized family room with two walls of glass overlooking a preserve and pool.

Avalon's newest model is the two-story Bella Vista at The Lakes Of Outlaw Ridge in Land O' Lakes, named Best of Show in the 2008 Pasco Building Association's Parade of Homes ... Neighborhoods on Parade. The model provides 4,127 square feet of living space, four bedrooms, three bathrooms, a den, bonus room and three-car garage.

"It's elegant and dynamic from top to bottom. We literally wrote a wish list of all the latest wow features we could ever want in a model, and this model incorporates them all," Zuckerman says. "It's a million dollar home for less than half the price."
The Bella Vista floor plan is priced from $435,900.

Avalon will build a home on a customer's lot as well.

Some "builders shy away from the practice of building on customers' lots, but that has always been a very important part of our business," Zuckerman says.

As a semi-custom builder, Avalon is flexible when it comes to accommodating its customers. "We are happy to adjust our floor plans to meet a family's needs," Zuckerman says. "Our plans range in size from 2,000 to 4,300 square feet."

Zuckerman says its floor plans have garnered many awards during the past 14 years. The Avalon IV and Antigua have both won the Grand Award in the Tampa Bay Builders Association's Parade of Homes and Best of Show in the Pasco Building Association's Parade of Homes ... Neighborhoods on Parade.

"Customers tell us all the time that they love our homes and that they get great compliments from their friends, even years after their home was built," Zuckerman says. "We realize how important a home purchase is to the families we build for. Come out and see our models, you will be very glad you did."
