"Buy new, buy now!" is the mantra for the Pasco Building Association's ninth annual Parade of Homes ... Neighborhoods on Parade.
"Interest rates are low, the cost of housing has come down and there are lots of great deals in the new home-building industry," says Nita Beckwith, chief executive officer of the PBA.
So why else should you make time to attend the event, which runs through Feb. 24?
"To see the latest items and trends in new homes," Beckwith says. "The Parade of Homes ... Neighborhoods on Parade is a great way for people, such as young families, retirees and empty nesters, who are looking to move into a new home to see what's available."
Thirty models and two communities - Connerton and Bella Terra - will be on display during the event, expected to attract thousands.
There will be some innovative things on display this year, Beckwith says.
"Town homes that offer a lot of amenities for a great price, new floor plans and great new subdivisions," Beckwith says. "There are a lot of new ideas and new concepts in the model homes."
Siebel Fall Homes is presenting the 2008 PBA Showcase Home. It's in the Alsace community in Land O' Lakes. Siebel Falls Homes is incorporating "green" building techniques in the home and the community.
A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the home will be donated to Ronald McDonald Care Mobile and Mercy Ships, which offer health care services to the poor.
Other homes on display feature 1,200 to 4,000 square feet of living space and are priced from $180,000 to more than $800,000. Participating builders include Arthur Rutenberg Homes/Lyons Heritage, Avalon Building Corp., Greene Builders, Inland Homes, Lexington Homes, McCar Homes, Southern Crafted Homes, Southern Image Homes, Standard Pacific Homes, The Wilson Co. and Windward Homes.
Communities will compete for the Community of the Year award and builders are vying to win the Best Overall Model of the Year.
Beckwith expects the event to be a booming success as it has been in the past.
"Quite a few homes were sold during and after the parade," Beckwith says.
This year's sponsors are Connerton/Terrabrook, The Tampa Tribune/Suncoast News, SunTrust Bank, Donna Feldman P.A., Cox Radio, WJQB The Oldies, CEA Marketing, The Tampa Bay Homebuyer, Signature Signs and Hamilton Sales Consulting Inc.
