THE RIDE: Four-door, five-passenger 2007 Cadillac STS-V sedan.

DOWN THE ROAD: A carryover from last year, the STS-V retains its awesome performance, numerous luxury goodies and attractive styling. Available in just one trim, the rear-wheel-drive Caddy exhibits incredible road-handling capabilities and snappy acceleration, which propel the sedan from 0-60 mph in five seconds.

TECH & PERFORMANCE: The 4.4-liter supercharged Northstar V-8 engine packs 469 horsepower at 6400 rpm and 439 pounds-feet of torque at 3800 rpm. It's mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission with manual-shift capabilities that results in a quiet and responsive drive train. An independent suspension of short/long arm and coil-over performance-tuned monotube shocks in the front and modified multilink coil springs and performance-tuned load-leveling shocks in the rear deliver an unwavering ride. The STS-V's stopping abilities left a lasting impression, thanks to massive 14-inch front and 14.3-inch rear Brembo brake rotors. Large 18- and 19-inch Pirellis keep tire slippage to a minimum.

LOOK & FEEL: Equipped to cool off the engine, the dual wire-mesh grille is flanked by HID headlights and fog lamps. The rear fascia is sporty and attractive with an upward-pointed spoiler, vertical tail lights and dual exhaust pipes. With the key fob in your pocket, just push a button behind the steering wheel and the engine purrs to life. The interior is sumptuous and all the controls are within quick and easy reach. The leather seats with perforated suede inserts convey luxury, as does the olive ash burl-wood trim on the center stack, door panel and shifter knob. Aluminum accents on the three-spoke, leather-wrapped steering wheel are a nice touch. Back-seat passengers will enjoy the convenience of air-conditioning controls and two cupholders hidden under the center console.

SAFETY FIRST: Dual front and side airbags, curtain side airbag for both rows, four-wheel antilock brakes, stability and traction control, brake assist, rear-park assist, tire pressure monitoring system and daytime running lights are standard.

OUT THE DOOR: $74,870, plus tax, tag, delivery and destination charges.

BY THE NUMBERS: Tires, P255/45R18 front, P275/40R19 rear; wheelbase, 116.4 inches; length, 196.3 inches; weight, 3,857 pounds; fuel capacity, 17.5 gallons; highway, 21 mpg; city, 14 mpg.

WHY DIG IT: Looking for a power-at-all-times engine with all the bells and whistles that come only with a luxury sedan? The STS-V will fulfill your needs. But at a price - $74,870. Enjoy the ride.
