PLANT CITY A baton-twirling group founded more than a half-century ago will hold registration this month for its new season.

The Hillsborough County Twirlettes will register girls in Plant City from 4 to 6 p.m. Aug. 19 at Shiloh Charter School, 905 W. Terrace Drive.

The classes will be offered at Shiloh at 3:15 p.m. Mondays starting Aug. 26, said Charla Kerwin, who directs the group.

Classes are appropriate for girls kindergarten through middle school age. Students will learn one baton, two baton and flag twirling skills.

The Twirlettes perform at parades, Kerwin said.

Kerwin's mother, Peggy Capps, founded the group and still helps out.

Classes also are held from 4:45 to 5:30 p.m. Mondays at Foundation Christian Academy, 3955 Lithia-Pinecrest Road, Valrico. Registration for the Valrico classes will be from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Monday at the Christian Academy.
