Although it’s barely half over, this year is on track to be one of the most successful for Southern Crafted Homes, which has already closed more than 50 homes and has another 56 under construction.
The area of greatest growth? Custom homes throughout Pasco, Hillsborough and Pinellas counties are increasingly in demand, said Jim Deitch, chief operating officer for Southern Crafted Homes.
Deitch attributes the surge in demand for custom homes to a resurgence of families looking to live in homes that can accommodate extended families and entertaining. Families are looking for bigger lots that can handle the more upscale designs, he said.
“There is a much greater demand for more space, lavish features and luxury,” Deitch said. “And home buyers are having fun adding into their home plans all of the design details they’ve always dreamed about. We’re taking their dreams and translating them into blueprints that work,” he said.
Here are some examples of this renewed focus on custom construction: Southern Crafted Homes just completed a $2.2 million private residence on beachfront property in Treasure Island and is preparing to build two more custom beach homes, as well as one on the Intracoastal Waterway.
It also has projects underway in Wesley Chapel, New Port Richey, Trinity, Tarpon Springs and Isle of Palms.
Another reason so many families are choosing Southern Crafted Homes, Deitch said, is the 23-year-old company’s buying power, which translates into better value for customers.
“A custom home typically costs more because it’s a one-of-a-kind home,” he said. “We’re able to capture volume buying power with our contractors and suppliers and pass that value on to our custom home buyers,” he said.
“That connection with contractors and suppliers also means our custom homes are built faster than typical custom homes, which translates into significant savings for buyers who are using construction loans for their financing.”
Southern Crafted Homes also has seen growth in home building in traditional communities with two new neighborhoods.
The company is breaking ground this summer at Bayou Grand, a new townhome community in Seminole, as well as opening a second phase in The Preserve at Quail Woods in Wesley Chapel.
Southern Crafted Homes has been building in the Tampa Bay area since 1990 and has built in more than 20 well-known communities.
