PLANT CITY Youths ages 8 to 13 can show off their talent and win awards Jan. 25 at the annual Youth Basketball Tri-Star Skills competition.

Boys and girls compete separately in single age groups at the contest, 1 p.m. at the Tomlin Middle School gym, at Oak Avenue and Edwards Street.

The Plant City Optimist Club and the city Recreation and Parks Department have sponsored the event for many years. There is no fee to participate and advance registration is not required.

Players compete by dribbling through a line of cones, passing at a target and shooting free throws and other shots.

Awards are presented for first, second and third place in each age group.

For information, contact city Youth Athletics Coordinator Danny Smith at dsmith@plantcitygov.com or (813) 659-4200, ext. 4313.
