PLANT CITY A developer has asked for a sign variance for a Wawa convenience store next to the Starbucks at Interstate 4 and Thonotosassa Road.

B.W. Henderson I-4 Thonotosassa LLC is asking for permission for an 8-foot sign that would advertise gas prices. The variance board would have to approve the variance request, probably at a meeting next month, city Senior Planner Phillip Scearce said.

A Wawa sign would also be placed on the 120-foot tall pole that supports a Starbucks sign at the interchange, Scearce said.

The city is also requiring a traffic study by the developer for the property, which is at 2705 Thonotosassa Road, Scearce said.
