PLANT CITY -

Downtown merchants will celebrate the arrival of spring with a street fair in McCall Park.

About two dozen vendors will offer arts, antiques, crafts, food and more at Spring in the Park. The celebration will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday in the park at 100 N. Collins St. downtown.

Shops around downtown also will welcome visitors to the event.

“We are trying to get people to enjoy a day downtown and while they are here, we hope they will visit our shops,” said Darcy Stottlemyer, owner of All A Bloom floral shop and president of the Downtown Merchants and Business Association.

There will be children's activities, such as a bounce house and face painting, Stottlemyer said.

“We'll have something for all ages, so it should be fun for the whole family,” she said.

Most of the vendors are not downtown merchants, so they will offer merchandise not necessarily found in stores. But the ultimate goal is to lure in shoppers who will return to the downtown historic district.

This is the third year the downtown merchants association has sponsored a spring celebration. This year the event, previously known as the Spring Thing, has a slightly different name, Spring in the Park, to draw attention to the fact that it's in McCall Park.
