Summer help needed at tourist information center

PLANT CITY – The help wanted sign is out at the Plant City Tourist Information Center.

The Greater Plant City Chamber of Commerce, which operates the information center at Park Road and Interstate 4, needs more volunteers.

Many of the regular volunteers are either away on vacation or live up North during the summer, so the center is short-handed, chamber President Marion Smith said.

Smith said volunteers don’t need to have textbook knowledge of the area as there’s always someone around who can help provide answers to tourists who stop by the center at 1702 N. Park Road.

The center is open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day except New Year’s Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Among other duties, volunteers provide directions and answer questions and hand out maps and brochures. They generally work either 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. or 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.

To lend a helping hand or for information, call the chamber of commerce at (813) 754-3707.
