Motorists passing by may have been surprised today to see firefighters climbing a ladder to reach the roof of a multi-story building near the downtown historic district.
Fortunately, there was no emergency; it was a training exercise.
Five firefighters with Plant City Fire Rescue took turns going to the top of the ladder to practice rescuing someone from the top of a large building at Wheeler Street and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. The building, which over the years has housed a bank and other businesses, is more than three stories tall.
Fire Rescue Capt. John Carter said firefighters constantly practice the skills they need for real emergencies, including rescues from tall buildings.
