PLANT CITY – Holidays will be the theme when the Plant City Garden Club presents its annual flower show Feb. 6 at Walden Lake Golf and Country Club.
The club expects about 170 entries that reflect holidays, including July 4 and Christmas. There is no admission to the show and the club hopes to top last year’s attendance of about 200 visitors.
The show will be from 5 to 8 p.m. in the main dining room at the country club, 2001 Clubhouse Drive. Free hors d’oeuvres, tea and water will be served. Beer and wine will be available for purchase.
Guitarist James Wilcox will stroll the dining room playing music, club member Cassandra Banning said.
Garden Club members will compete for ribbons awarded by judges, Banning said. Special awards and a gift go to the people’s choice – as decided by show visitors – and for novice.
The show will also feature two educational exhibits, on butterflies and invasive and non-invasive plants. Sassi, a Plant City interior design shop, will set up a display as a center of interest at the show, Banning said.
The Garden Club has been presenting an annual flower show for about 50 years, Banning said. The show has won national Garden Club awards and often ranks among the top shows in the country.
