Plant City cloggers excel at Georgia competition

PLANT CITY A local clogging team took several first place trophies recently at a competition near Atlanta.

Clogging Connection’s 15 team members competed in various age groups against teams from Florida, Georgia and Tennessee, placing at or near the top in more than a dozen categories. The team excelled in both group and solo performances.

“I was really pleased; they really did a wonderful job and they worked so hard,” said Debbie Conn, who co-directs the team with her daughter Becky and granddaughter Kaley.

The Plant City cloggers’ wins at the Power All Star Challenge include five first places; three grand champion awards; rookie team of the day; adult team of the day; overall rookie team; and the sportsmanship award. They also placed second three times.

The challenge was hosted by PowerTaps, a clogging team in Woodstock, Ga. The competition was held at First Baptist Church of Woodstock.

The clogging team was formed in 1986 and competes three times a year, Conn said. The team is based at the Dance Connection, a Plant City dance business known as Jackie’s Dance Theatre until Conn bought it three years ago.

Members of the Clogging Connection include Jocelyn Ivey, 5, Hannah Holm, 10, Ericka Albritton, 13, Lauren Cadle, 13, Ashely Hartley, 17, Kaley Conn, 18, Cierra Craft, 19, Alex Robertson, 24, Brittney Mowrey, 24, Holly Justus, 25, Kali Welchons, 26, Becky Conn, 38, Maureen Cadle, 44, Jamie Conn, 43, and Luanne Strachn, 45.
