PLANT CITY - One of the city’s oldest churches will celebrate more than a century of service Sunday.

Allen Chapel AME Church will have its annual Founder’s Day celebration that includes a guest sermon by James V. Honors of Mount Saini AME Church in Medulla.

The day starts with Sunday school at 9:30 a.m. followed by worship at 11 a.m. Besides Honor’s sermon, the morning worship is scheduled to include Mayor Mary Mathis presenting a city proclamation to the church.

Allen Chapel’s pastor, the Rev. Larry Keys Sr., will give closing remarks.

The church was founded 121 years ago and has been at its current location since 1919, said Eddie Mae Mitchell, Founder’s Day chairwoman.
