Recreation and Parks to host annual Halloween party

Published:

PLANT CITY – Kids can trick-or-treat, win prizes, and dress up in their favorite costumes at the annual Halloween Spooktacular Oct. 26 at the Planteen Recreation Center. The Halloween party will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. for children ages 2 and up, with a parent or guardian for children under 18. A costume contest will be held during the party, with organizers and volunteers judging in costume categories such as scariest, most original, and the funniest.

“It’s always fun to see how creative they get,” said Deborah Haldane, program manager for the Recreation and Parks Department. There are no rules or restrictions regarding costume but organizers do encourage everyone to bring a bag or bucket for trick-or-treating.

Besides trick-or-treating, carnival style games will be set up throughout the room as well as a cake walk with baked or store bought desserts provided by the senior aerobics class and ladies Bible study, which both meet at the Planteen. According to Haldane, the cake walk has been the most popular game at the party the last couple of years.

“We’ve had a good turnout every year,” she said of the Halloween party.

The event is $6 per person with a costume and $7 for anyone not wearing a costume. The Planteen Recreation Center is located at 301 Dort St.
