PLANT CITY – Members of the Plant City Police Department are mourning the traffic deaths of the parents of a police captain.

Charles C. Pruet, 84, and his 83-year-old wife, Alicia Cranie Pruet, were killed Monday afternoon when their Hyundai was hit by a large truck. They are the parents of Police Capt. Susan Pruet, a retired FBI agent who joined the force in 2009.

“Any time we lose an extended family member to a tragic event such as this one we are all affected,” police Chief Steve Singletary said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Captain Pruet and her family in this difficult time.”

The Pruets were killed when the wife, who was driving, tried to make a left turn across James L. Redman Parkway from Johnson Road. The car was hit on the driver’s side by a semi tractor driven by Morgan Davis of Plant City, who was headed south on the parkway.

Alicia died at the scene and her husband died after being airlifted to Tampa General Hospital.

Capt. Pruet is the head of the department’s investigative services division.

No charges have been filed.
