PLANT CITY An Orlando man has been charged with driving while intoxicated-manslaughter in the Monday traffic death of a 52-year-old Plant City woman, officials said.

Michael B. Johnson, 54, was also charged with tampering with evidence after the 3:30 a.m. crash that killed Sandra D. Marin, Polk County deputies said.

Marin had a green arrow to turn from southbound U.S. 27 onto the ramp to eastbound Interstate 4 when Johnson’s 2004 Ford F-250 pickup truck hit her 2010 Toyota Carolla, deputies said. Johnson was northbound on U.S. 27 and traveled through a red light, deputies said.

Martin, who lived on Goldfinch Drive, died at the scene.

Johnson, who was uninjured, disposed of several cans of beer and their contents by the side of the road after the crash, deputies said.

A blood sample showed that Johnson’s blood alcohol level was .11, above the .08 level at which Florida law presumes a driver is intoxicated, an affidavit said.

He was being held Tuesday without bail at Polk County jail.
