PLANT CITY – Knights-Griffin Road is closed at State Road 39 at least until January as crews raise the roadway.

The temporary closure is part of the ongoing nearly $14.8 million project to extend Alexander Street by 2.6 miles. Motorists are being directed around the closed section of road by detour signs, Florida Department of Transportation spokeswoman Kris Carson said.

The crews needed to raise the level of Knights-Griffin where it meets the state road, Carson said.

Alexander Street is being extended from Interstate 4 to link with State Road 39 at Knights-Griffin. The entire extension project should wrap up next summer.

For information about the temporary closure, call the Department of Transportation’s public information office at (813) 975-6060.
