Free Christmas art show includes the best works by area artists

PLANT CITY – Art lovers can enjoy wine and cheese while viewing some of the area’s best works at an annual holiday art show.

The East Hillsborough Art Guild’s A Christmas Showing of Fine Art will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. Dec. 5 at the Walden Lake Golf and Country Club.

There’s no admission charge for the show at the venue, 2001 Clubhouse Drive. The event will feature a diverse range of exhibitions including water colors, acrylics and oils.

“Many of the artists who are members of our guild will be exhibiting and selling their original works of art,” said Colleen Justin, a guild member who has chaired the show for the past two years.

The evening will include drawings for gift baskets and select pieces of art created by art guild members. Chances for the drawings will be available for a $1 donation per ticket.

Money raised from the fundraiser will go toward scholarships for art students.

“Each year the guild awards art scholarships to local students or organizations that support young artists,” Justin said. “None of the prizes has less than a $50 value, and some of the paintings much more.”

The Christmas show has been showcasing art created by guild members for 22 years.

“A lot of people unfortunately are not aware of the talent that we have right here in Plant City,” she said.
