A local car dealer has been named the Plant City Family YMCA’s inaugural volunteer of the year.
Jim Scott, general manager for Jarrett-Scott Ford, has served on the local Y’s board of directors for eight years. The volunteer of the year award is a new honor based on outstanding service to the organization.
The Plant City Family YMCA is one of the main charities supported by the dealership at 2000 E. Baker St.
“I enjoy helping the Y, it’s a great organization and I’m proud to be a part of it,” Scott said.
Scott is the Y’s longest serving active board member. He is also the chairman of the Greater Plant City Chamber of Commerce.
In addition to the time he volunteers as a board member, Scott also hosted last year’s Drive One 4 UR Community fundraiser, where his dealership offered free test drives of new cars. The fundraiser brought in $3,620 to the Plant City Y, 1507 YMCA Place.
Andrea Cook, who became interim executive director of the Plant City Y about two months ago, said Scott has been a major help to the organization.
“We are truly honored to have Jim as part of our Y family and appreciate his generous commitment of his time and talents over the years,” Cook said. “Our charitable work is not possible without our volunteers.”
Scott was recognized as the Plant City Y’s Volunteer of the Year at a March 26 program at the Tampa Metropolitan Area YMCA’s annual Community Impact Dinner.
Each of the 14 branches of the Tampa YMCA organization named a volunteer of the year, spokeswoman Lalita Llerena said.
