Diaper Drive to raise funds and supplies for Pregnancy Care Center

Published:   |   Updated: November 4, 2013 at 12:52 PM

A fundraiser will be held in the parking lot at the Pregnancy Care Center of Plant City to raise funds and supplies for the center’s Baby Boutique Nov. 9 from 9 a.m to noon. Called the Diaper Drive, the fundraiser will primarily focus on stockpiling diapers and baby wipes for the boutique.

“We’re just mainly getting a good supply stocked up in our boutique,” said Ashlyn Gerbasi, client advocate for the center.

Gerbasi explained that since diapers are expensive, their supply is quickly drained in the boutique. Clients of the Pregnancy Care Center can earn “Baby Bucks” while participating in the free programs offered by the center, which they can use to shop for items and supplies in the center’s Baby Boutique.

“Supplies are in every day demand when you have a newborn,” Gerbasi said. “It really is a blessing for them, when they need help, to utilize the Baby Bucks.”

Anyone participating in the fundraiser can either drop off diapers and baby wipes or make a donation. The Diaper Drive will be the first fundraiser held by G.A.L.S. (Girls Auxiliary Life Support), a program founded by Gerbasi and supported by the Pregnancy Care Center of Plant City for girls 18 or younger to volunteer at fundraisers and help support the Pregnancy Care Center. According to established guidelines, anyone employed or volunteering directly with the center must be 18 or older. Gerbasi explained that the program was a good way to encourage involvement for girls under the age of 18.

“This will be the first event and project they will be doing and we are really excited about it,” Gerbasi said.

The Pregnancy Care Center of Plant City offers pregnancy tests, limited ultrasounds to those who qualify, prenatal and parenting classes, abstinence and STD education, abortion recovery classes, and information regarding adoption as an option. All services at the center are offered free to clients, who are also eligible for prenatal and parenting classes from the time of a confirmed pregnancy until the baby’s first birthday.
