Club plays Santa

Members of the Plant City Noon Rotary on Dec. 19 paid their annual visit to the Boys & Girls Club of Plant City, where they presented a wrapped gift of new shoes to each child.

"This is one of my favorite things to do through Rotary because of the joy it brings these children," said Rotary Club president and city commissioner Billy Keel.

This is the club's fourth year helping youngsters and "we hope and plan to do it for years to come," Keel said.

In addition to giving all the children shoes at Christmas, the Rotary Club helps the Boys and Girls Club annually with other projects and donations.

Church lends hand to food bank

Members of Hope Lutheran Church recently presented $700 to help feed the needy.

The church presented the donation to Christine Miller, executive director of the United Food Bank of Plant City. The church raised the money as part of a food drive that is sponsored by THRIVENT Financial for Lutherans.

As a part of the annual drive, THRIVENT matches the amount of food donated with a cash donation to the food bank. This year, Hope members donated 1,443 pounds of food or just over 1,200 items in the three weeks of collection.
