PLANT CITY -

Joyce Reedy spent some of her happiest times toward the end of her 87 years on this earth at the Plant City Senior Center at 1205 S. Waller St.

After she died July 12, her daughter, artist Judy Strong, wanted to thank the staff. With the county's permission, she created a mural of a seaside scene on a wall outside of the center.

"It's the view of my mom's view in heaven," Strong said.

Strong, a lifelong artist who lives in Lithia, spent about 40 hours on the mural that includes peacocks and a tree. She likened it to a view from a balcony on the Mediterranean Sea.

Reedy was born in Minneapolis and lived in Sun City Center for about 20 years before moving to Lithia five years ago. For the past four years or so, she spent two days a week at the adult day care program in Plant City.

Hillsborough County Family and Aging Services officials, along with seniors who spend days at the Plant City center, helped dedicate the mural two weeks ago.

"We were honored that you brought your mother here, and she was just a joy to the staff," said Michelle Ingram, human services supervisor for the adult day care program.

"The mural is so beautiful. It makes you want to sit down with a cup of coffee and day dream."
