If you want proof that Frank Medrano is patriotic, look no further than his front yard on such solemn days as Sept. 11.

The retired Air Force master sergeant has nearly 50 American flags in front of his home at 6107 Paul Buchman Highway. He also has red, white and blue bunting and flags of all branches of service - Army, Air Force, Coast Guard, Marines and Navy.

“I started about 10 years ago and it’s grown over the years,” he said.

The 74-year-old, who is fond of red, white and blue shirts, leaves the flags out a day or two before and after each holiday such as July 4th.

Occasionally a motorist will give an approving toot of the horn as he or she passes by on the busy highway that connects Plant City and Zephyrhills.

Medrano said it felt it was important to show his colors on Sept. 11.

“That was when the terrorists struck at the heartland, so to speak,” he said.

“I’ve always been very patriotic.”
