PLANT CITY — Longtime South Florida Baptist Hospital official Karen Kerr has been appointed its new president.

Kerr, the hospital’s director of patient care for 11 years, has been interim president since August. She replaces Steve Nierman, who left the 147-bed hospital to take the helm at a sister BayCare Health System hospital in Winter Haven.

“Karen is a dynamic leader with a true passion for serving patients and their families and has earned the support of the board, medical staff, team members and community leaders,” Glenn Waters, president of BayCare’s hospital division said in a statement.

Kerr, a Plant City resident for 20 years, was formerly director of patient care services at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa, another BayCare hospital. Her resume also includes serving as assistant administrator of patient services at South Florida Baptist.

Kerr said she was “excited and honored to be selected to lead South Florida Baptist Hospital into the future.”
