Clearwater police have arrested a major in the U.S. Army on murder charges in connection with the death of his wife’s former husband two years ago.

Police say Maj. Roman Izzo,35, stationed at Fort Leavenworth in Kansas, is being held there pending extradition to Clearwater.

Izzo is charged in the slaying of Vincent Edward Lee, 43. whose body was found inside his condominium on Nov. 16, 2011, off Landmark Drive.

Police say Lee’s death stems from a custody dispute between Lee and his former wife.

Izzo has been with the army since 2000, and he has been a major since 2009. He has been deployed to Iraq three times, once served in Kosovo, and has been awarded two bronze star medals, according to an army spokesman.
