Two teens wounded in Lakeland drive-by shootings

Two teenagers were injured in drive-by shootings in Lakeland on Saturday, according to the Lakeland Police Department.

The first took place about 3 p.m., while the 15-year-old victim was a passenger in a vehicle that was southbound on Brunnell Parkway near George Jenkins Boulevard. A vehicle of unknown make and model passed them, firing rounds and striking the teen in the left arm, police said.

The other people in the car took drove the teen to Lakeland Regional Medical Center, and hospital personnel notified police. The victim’s condition is unknown at this time.

While detectives were investigating the first shooting, the second drive-by shooting occurred at 6:50 p.m. The 15-year-old victim, who was in the car that was struck in the previous attack, was standing outside 2nd Street and Jewel Avenue when a vehicle drove by and fired several rounds, hitting him in the back and arm, police said.

The teen was airlifted to Tampa in critical condition.

There is no vehicle or suspect description in either case.

Police said they don’t know whether the shootins were gang-related.
