Two shot at St. Petersburg restaurant as groups gather for fight

Published:

Two people were wounded about midnight Tuesday after two groups gathered at a restaurant in St. Petersburg for a fight.

Police said the groups met in a rear parking lot of Hiro's Tokyo Steakhouse, 5250 4th St. N., but a man started shooting into the crowd before a fight could start.

Officers, who found shell casings at the scene, learned an 18-year-old woman was shot and her friends had taken her to Bayfront Medical Center. A second victim, a 20-year-old man, was found at a nearby gas station awaiting medical care.

Both victims suffered non-life threatening injuries, and were treated and released from the hospital, police said.

Aron T. Headley, 18, was charged with two counts of felony criminal mischief after he damaged two vehicles with a baseball bat, police said.

Witnesses said one group arrived at the restaurant to fight the other, but police are not sure what caused the dispute. Police said it might be related to a fight at the restaurant the previous night involving either restaurant staff or their associates.
