St. Petersburg police are investigating a motor scooter crash that occurred just before 3 a.m. Sunday in the 600 block of Central Avenue, injuring the operator and a pedestrian.

The 2004 Yamaha scooter operated by Nathan Loren Cicle, 32, of 3528 62nd St. N., was eastbound on Central as he approached pedestrians Lacey Mackenzie Fraze, 22, of 700 Druid Way in Lutz, and Wesley Keith Reeves, 54, of 611 Green Cove Drive in Brandon.

The pedestrians, who were crossing Central from the north and reached the median, and Reeves stopped. But Fraze continued to walk, and she ended up in the path of the scooter, police said. Cicle swerved and lost control, striking Fraze as the scooter went to the ground, police said.

Cicle, who was not wearing a helmet, was thrown from the scooter and struck his head on the pavement. He suffered a head injury that was described as life-threatening and was taken to Bayfront Medical Center.

Fraze received minor injuries and was not hospitalized.
