A Tampa man was ticketed for careless driving after a high-speed lane change on Interestate 275 led to a five-car crash in St. Petersburg this afternoon, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
At about 1:26 p.m., Erik Chevere-Figueroa, 31, was driving south on the interstate near 38th Avenue N. when he attempted to pass a car in the outside lane, but instead collided with it, troopers said. He then hit another car before spinning across the road and colliding with two other cars in the inside lane, troopers said.
Chevere-Figueroa and his passenger, Andrea M. Bledsoe, 28, were taken to Bayfront Medical Center with minor injuries, troopers said. The driver of another vehicle, Sidney N. Johnson, of Lake Placid, was also taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Nobody else was hurt in the accident.
