Clearwater Beach is ready to show what it's made of.

The inaugural Frenchy's Sugar Sand Festival will bring 10 days of exhibits, competitions and events to Clearwater Beach this week – all revolving around the area's white, fluffy “sugar sand.”

The festival, which takes place at Pier 60, begins Friday and runs through April 28.

One highlight is the Sugar Sand Walk, an exhibit with 1,000 tons of sand sculptures displayed in a 12,000-square-foot tent.

Admission to the exhibit is $7 for adults and $5 for seniors, members of the military and students ages 13 to 18. Children 12 and under are free.

Free events during the festival include sand sculpting classes, speed sculpting demonstrations, an acrobatics and circus show, street performers, movie screenings and fireworks.

A sand sculpting competition, featuring six “master sand sculptors” competing for a $5,000 prize, will take place on the final weekend.
