Two teenage girls remain hospitalized after the plane they were riding in crashed early Saturday onto McMullen Booth Road, seven miles north of St. Petersburg-Clearwater Airport. The pilot and father of one of the girls died in the crash.

Katie Bronken and Keyana Linbo, both 15, remain in St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office. Keyana’s injuries do not appear to be life threatening.

Jeffrey Bronken, 53, left an airport in the Chicago area about 6:30 p.m. Friday as he took his daughter and friend to Florida on a spring break trip in his single-engine Piper PA-28.

He reported some kind of fuel-related problem to air traffic controllers shortly before his plane nose-dived into a median on McMullen Booth about 4 a.m.

All three are from Round Lake, Ill.
