A Tarpon Springs mother was arrested Tuesday, accused of buying Bacardi rum for five minors, four of whom were treated for alcohol poisoning at local hospitals.
Mellisa Louise Mundell, 43, of 1608 Fox Run Drive, was arrested on five counts of child neglect. She was released on her own recognizance after she was booked into the Pinellas County Jail Tuesday morning.
About 9:30 a.m. Friday, Mundell carted three of the juveniles to a liquor store where she bought a bottle of Bacardi rum and Coke, according to arrest reports. She returned home, served the kids rum and soda and then went into her room to talk with her boyfriend on the phone, the reports say. One of the kids was her own child.
The children were vomiting by the time Mundell came out of her room, the reports say,
Mundell told police she had made a “huge mistake,” saying she just wanted to be a “cool” mom, the arrest affidavits say.
