Still time to register for Pinellas classes

Published:

Pinellas County students head back to school Aug. 18, and there is still time to enroll.

The Schools Student Assignment office will have extended hours to help parents of new students through the registration process from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the school administration building, 301 Fourth St. SW. Normal operating hours are 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Families also may receive registration help by calling (727) 588-6210 or going to www.pcsb.org/new.

Starting Monday, parents may register new students in person at their child’s zoned school.

Those interested in enrolling in a Voluntary Prekindergarten program may apply for a VPK Voucher with the Early Learning Coalition by calling (727) 400-4411, or by registering online at www.elcpinellas.net. Children must be 4 years old on or before Sept. 1 and must have a VPK voucher to enroll.

Parents with a VPK voucher may enroll their children in person at their zoned school starting Monday, or from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Early Childhood Office in the administration building. Parents must have a birth certificate or proof of the child’s age, a Florida certificate of immunization, a physical examination certificate signed by a licensed examiner and proof of Florida residency.

A list of schools offering VPK programs can be found at www.pcsb.org/vpk.

The school district also has a new website that features new applications, including a district-wide calendar, a video player, enhanced search options and the ability to sign up for email alerts. The site can be translated into 80 different languages. In the coming weeks, school websites will be redesigned with similar layouts and capabilities as the district page.
