A St. Petersburg motorcyclist died early this morning man when he crashed into a car that turned in front of him.

St. Petersburg police say Ryan Shaw, 41, was riding eastbound in the curb lane on Ninth Avenue North, approaching the intersection of 52nd Street North, Sunday around 8:30 p.m. as Cheryl Lenard, 41, was stopped in the median lane of eastbound Ninth Avenue North.

Lenard, driving a 2009 Chevrolet HHR, made a left turn to go southbound on 52nd Street North, and the front of Shaw’s motorcycle struck Lenard’s rear passenger side door, police say.

Shaw, who was wearing a helmet, was unresponsive at the scene. He was hospitalized and died early this morning, police say.

Charges may be pending, following an investigation, and police say drugs or alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the crash.
