ST. PETERSBURG — A 35-year-old St. Petersburg man has been arrested on charges he grabbed a woman at a bus stop early Wednesday, dragged her to his apartment and raped her, according to St. Petersburg police.

John Robert LeRoux was booked into the Pinellas County Jail early today on charges of sexual battery and kidnapping. He was being held at the Pinellas County Jail on $60,000 bail.

At about 4 a.m. Wednesday, the woman was sitting on a bus stop bench when LeRoux, who didn’t know her, approached her and started talking to her, said St. Petersburg police spokesman Mike Puetz. When she got up to leave, he grabbed her, threatened to kill her and then dragged her to his nearby apartment by putting his hand around her throat and his other hand on her belt, Puetz said.

At the apartment at 865 5th Ave. N., the 35-year-old woman bit LeRoux’s hand, after which he used a rope to tie her hands together, Puetz said. At one point, he made her look into a mirror to see what was being done to her, at another point he used a sex toy, the spokesman said.

After LeRoux let her go, she called the police.
