A man wanted in several area Tampa Bay area bank robberies has been arrested in South Carolina, St. Petersburg police said today.

Wesley Andrew Fox, 28, was arrested by St. Petersburg detectives Oct. 5 when he was seen fleeing from a bank robbery at the PNC Bank, 3801 49th St. N.

Investigators determined Fox was suspected in five robberies of PNC banks in St. Petersburg, Largo, Clearwater, and Pasco County, police said. He was charged with three counts of kidnapping, armed kidnapping, and five counts of armed bank robbery.

He was released from the Pinellas County Jail on Dec. 8 after posting $350,000 bail, but then failed to appear for his pretrial hearing and a bench warrant was issued for his arrest.

Fox was arrested today in Greensville, S.C., after a brief foot chase, police said.

Federal and state agencies working together made the arrest possible, police said.
