A recruiter for the U.S. Army was arrested today on charges he raped a 17-year-old girl he met when she stopped by his recruiting office in St. Petersburg to join the military, according to St. Petersburg police.
Jason M. Reffner, 27, of St. Petersburg, was arrested on charges of with sexual battery and unlawful sexual activity with a minor. He was released from the Pinellas County Jail after posting $40,000 bail.
After the girl stopped by his recruiting office in June, Reffner and the girl communicated by telephone, and he eventually asked her in a Facebook message if she wanted to have sex with him; the girl said she was interested, St. Petersburg police spokesman Mike Puetz said.
Reffner picked up the girl and took her to his apartment in St. Petersburg to have sex, Puetz said. The two had sex, but then Reffner was interested in a sexual act the girl did not consent to, and she resisted, the spokesman said. Reffner forced her to submit anyway, Puetz said.
