A 12-year-old Seminole girl is in critical condition after she was struck by an SUV Thursday afternoon, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

At 4: 28 p.m., Leah Martin was walking across 131st Street south of 84th Terrace in a crosswalk leading from Seminole High School when she was hit by a southbound 2003 Honda SUV driven by Lyght L. Hussey, 37, of Seminole, FHP said.

The vehicle then traveled onto the right shoulder of the road, with Martin pinned under the vehicle, FHP said.

Martin was transported to Bayfront Medical Center for treatment of critical injuries. Neither Hussey nor her passenger, Janeice F. Bolden, 59, of Largo, were injured, FHP said.

Charges are pending, FHP said.
