Police: No foul play in Clearwater college student’s death

Published:

There was no sign of foul play after a 42-year-old St. Petersburg College student was found dead Tuesday morning in a restroom on the school’s Clearwater campus, police said.

Clearwater police were notified at 11:42 a.m. about a body in a restroom designed for disabled people in the Language Arts building, police spokesman Rob Shaw said.

The woman apparently stopped in the restroom about 9:24 a.m. on way to class, according to surveillance video. She never made it to the 9:30 a.m. class, Shaw said.

Detectives said the death did not appear to be suspicious, officials said.

About a half-hour after police arrived, news of the body’s discovery was posted on the campus Facebook page, noting “this matter does not appear to impact student safety or security.”

The Pinellas County Medical Examiner’s Office took possession of the body, Shaw said.

The woman’s family was notified, according to the school’s Facebook page.

“We are saddened to report the loss of one of our students,” the post read.
