Police are working to identify a man suspected of beating a 21-year-old woman at a St. Petersburg motel last week, leaving her in a coma.

Surveillance video shows the man and woman entering a room at the Kenwood Village Inn at 701 34th Street N. at around 4 a.m. on Aug. 23, police said. Within five minutes, the video shows the man leaving the room and shutting the door behind him.

A short time later someone heard sounds of distress coming from the room and entered to find the woman severely beaten, police said.

The woman, whose identity has not been released, was taken to Bayfront Medical Center. She has not regained consciousness and therefore hasn’t been able to give an account of what happened, police said.

Detectives released the surveillance video in an effort to generate tips in the case. The man on the video is suspected of attempted murder, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Rodney Tower at (727) 892-5008.
