A Tarpon Springs man was critically injured this morning after St. Petersburg police say a street sweeper that he was operating rolled on top of him.
Police say the incident occurred just after 8 a.m. in the area of Jefferson Circle SE and Fourth Street North.
According to police, 54-year-old John Tucker Sr. was attempting to get on the street sweeper when it began to move, causing him to fall.
While he was on the ground, police say the sweeper continued to move and rolled over his upper body.
Tucker remains in critical condition at Bayfront Health St. Petersburg, police say.
While the incident appears to be an accident, police say the Occupational Safety and Health Administration will investigate.
