An intoxicated Largo woman with five children in her care became angry Sunday and twisted a 7-year-old boy’s nipple until it turned red and also poked another youngster with a barbecue fork, Pinellas Park police said.

Elena Marie Degelormo, 58, faces a child abuse charge, Pinellas Park police said.

Police were called about a woman screaming in her backyard with children in the home on the 11800 block of 69th Way North. As officers arrived, five children ran to the front of the home.

According to an investigation, Degelormo was intoxicated and grilling dinner while the children were playing in the swimming pool. An unknown incident occurred and Degelormo got angry, police said.

According to police, Degelormo slapped a neighbor’s child, then poked one of the children in her care with the fork and scratched that child’s left shoulder. The children told police Degelormo twisted the 7-year-old’s nipple area, causing it to turn red. The children said Degelormo also bit the child on his arm.

The injuries were limited to minor scratches, police said.

Degelormo is the guardian of three girls, ages 11, 12 and 13, and two boys, ages 7 and 10. They were released to a relative and the state Department of Children & Families was notified, police said.

Degelormo was booked at the Pinellas County Jail and was released after posting $2,500 bond.
