Pinellas watering restrictions eased

Published:   |   Updated: July 31, 2013 at 02:32 PM

Watering restrictions will ease in Pinellas County, starting Thursday.

People using potable, well, lake, or pond water will be allowed to water their lawns two days a week, instead of one. The Southwest Florida Water Management District on Tuesday decided to end the more stringent conservation measures in effect thanks to the large amounts of rain the region has received in recent weeks.

Houses with addresses that end in even numbers can water on Thursday and Sunday. Houses with addresses ending in odd numbers water on Wednesday and Sunday. Houses with mixed addresses or no addresses water on Tuesday and Friday. People with properties that are 2 acres or more can water half their grass on Thursday and Sunday and the rest on Wednesday and Saturday.

People are still not supposed to water their lawns between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Washing cars; hand-watering plants, trees and shrubs; pressure washing and running fountains are no longer restricted.

The mandatory three-day-per-week watering schedule for people using reclaimed water does not go back into effect until Oct. 1, though people are encouraged to follow that schedule year-round.

Violations of watering restrictions can result in a $193 fine.
