Pinellas Park man accused of molesting girls

A 71-year-old man turned himself in this morning to face child molestation charges, the Pinellas Park Police Department said.

On Thursday, police responded to a report accusing Alan Timothy McGann of molesting a 5-year-old girl while she was visiting his home. When police spoke to him at his home, however, he denied the allegations, police said.

This morning, however, McGann walked into police headquarters and told a call taker that he wanted to surrender on child molestation charges, police said.

Speaking with officers, he admitted to touching the 5-year-old under her clothing and on her private parts twice Thursday, and admitted he had done the same to another girl he knew, police said.

The first instance with the second victim occurred 4-5 years ago when the victim was 5, and the most recent occurred 1-2 years ago, police said.

McGann was charged with three counts of lewd and lascivious molestation and is being held without bail at the Pinellas County Jail, police said.

He could face life in prison on any of the charges, police said.
