An 11-year-old boy was hospitalized after he was struck by a car while riding his bicycle on his way to school.

According to the Pinellas Park Police Department, the boy — a student at Cross Bayou Elementary School — was struck around 7:10 a.m. while riding northbound on the sidewalk along 66th Street North.

After stopping for a stop sign, police say a Dodge Durango SUV attempted to enter 66th Street North from a side street and struck the boy as he crossed into the SUV’s path.

The boy was transported to All Children’s Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police say.

Police say it was dark and raining at the time of the crash, and the boy was not wearing a helmet and did not have a light on the bicycle.

The driver of the SUV has yet to be identified.

No charges are expected, police say.

Stay with for updates.
