A Pinellas County sheriff’s deputy has been suspended for eight hours after he raised a fist at his wife while drunk, according to a sheriff’s office memorandum.

Deputy David Rueth will serve his suspension Tuesday.

According to the memorandum, Rueth’s wife called 911 on May 26. She told deputies Rueth had raised a fist at her, and he was subsequently arrested on a charge of simple domestic assault.

Rueth admitted he was drunk at the time and completed a self-help course, the sheriff’s office said.

Prosecutors eventually dropped the charge.
