Pinellas County sheriff’s deputies will resume their search for a missing boater in Lake Tarpon on Sunday morning.

The 70-year-old male boater went missing about 4 p.m. after he jumped from his vessel in Lake Tarpon at John Chestnut Park, 2200 East Lake Road, Palm Harbor. His name is not being released pending notification of next of kin, officials said.

The boater was on a pontoon boat with three other people when their dog jumped into the water. The boater jumped into the water to save the dog and then disappeared under the water. The dog was returned safely to the boat.

The search was suspended Saturday night because of darkness.
