A 55-year-old transient was struck by a car early this morning and seriously injured on Fourth Street North at the First Avenue North intersection, authorities said.
The 3:37 a.m. incident sent James Timothy Legg to Bayfront Medical Center with life threatening injuries, said St. Petersburg police.
Legg was crossing Fourth Street North against a red light when he was hit by a southbound 1998 Nissan Sentra driven by Justin Jarrod Stewart, 22, 2503 Lynn Lake Circle S., St. Petersburg.
Legg was propelled up onto the hood and windshield before being thrown to the pavement.
Police said Stewart was in the center lane and was going the speed limit and had a green light to pass through the intersection.
No charges were immediately filed and police said alcohol did not appear to play a part in the crash.
