A Samaritan stopped and helped keep an Oldsmar man out of the water Saturday night after his truck crashed in a pond in Tarpon Springs.

About 7:35 p.m., Richard J. Fenton, 52, of Holiday, was westbound at a high rate of speed in a 2008 Ford F-150 on Keystone Road east of Lora Lane in Tarpon Springs when he lost control of the truck, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The pickup started to spin, went onto the north shoulder, overturned several times and stopped on the driver’s side, partially submerged in a pond, FHP said.

Fenton was trapped, but Richard Glenn, 52, of Oldsmar, stopped and was able to keep him above the water until Fire Rescue units arrived.

Fenton was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa in serious condition.
