Madeira Beach Publix, chain's oldest, to be razed, replaced

Demolition begins this month at the Publix grocery store on the eastern edge of the Tom Stuart Causeway in Madeira Beach, the oldest operating store of the chain's 1,077 locations.

The entire shopping center, which includes several other storefronts, will be completely replaced with a new Publix expected to open by the end of the year.

The existing Publix opened in 1957, but numerous renovations have significantly altered its appearance.
